Water
Activities
Kalkan's
public beach with crystal-clear water is located to the east of the harbour.
Otherwise, hop on a dolmus and head for nearby Kaputas Beach, a lovely
sandy swimming cove nestled at the foot of striking mountain gorge. The
water is always a brilliant turquoise blue.
There are also several beach clubs in Kalkan with platforms beside the sea.
Watersports abound with jet skiing, water
skiing, parasailing, ringos and banana. Diving clubs in Kalkan offer diving
for all skill levels and the calm, tide-free, crystal-clear waters make it
an ideal location for beginners.
Sightseeing
Kalkan is famous for its proximity to a great
number of Lycian archaeological sites. These make excellent day trips.
Around twenty major sites remain today with a vast amount of unusual
funerary architecture dotting the mountains and valley surrounding Kalkan.
Also nearby is the famous Saklikent Gorge, the longest Gorge in Turkey and
the second largest in Europe. About 4 km. of the gorge can be walked.
Other activities in the region include paragliding (Kas and Oludeniz), boat
trips, cultural tours, canoeing on the Xanthos River and having the scrub of
your life at a hamam (Turkish bath) - there are a few in hotels in Kalkan,
open to the public.
Shopping
Lots of shopping opportunities
in Kalkan's boutiques and shops. Visit the Thursday market to see how
the locals shop and pick up a bargain while you're there!
At Night
Kalkan's town centre
transforms at dusk as it begins to bustle with activity. There is so much to
do; shopping, dining, cafes, excellent bars, or just going for a stroll
along the twisting
active streets or by the peaceful harbour.
