  About Kalkan

The historic town of Kalkan is an enchanting place and one of the most beautiful locations along Turkeys gorgeous Lycian cost. With the complete absence of mass tourism, Kalkan remains a charming and unspoiled haven of lush nature, brilliant blue crystal-clear sea, historic architecture, ancient history and warm traditional Turkish hospitality

Water Activities

Kalkan's public beach with crystal-clear water is located to the east of the harbour. Otherwise, hop on a dolmus and head for nearby Kaputas Beach,  a lovely sandy swimming cove nestled at the foot of striking mountain gorge. The water is always a brilliant turquoise blue.  There are also several beach clubs in Kalkan with platforms beside the sea.

Watersports abound with jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing, ringos and banana. Diving clubs in Kalkan offer diving for all skill levels and the calm, tide-free, crystal-clear waters make it an ideal location for beginners.

Sightseeing

Kalkan is famous for its proximity to a great number of Lycian archaeological sites. These make excellent day trips. Around twenty major sites remain today with a vast amount of unusual funerary architecture dotting the mountains and valley surrounding Kalkan. Also nearby is the famous Saklikent Gorge, the longest Gorge in Turkey and the second largest in Europe.  About 4 km. of the gorge can be walked.  Other activities in the region include paragliding (Kas and Oludeniz), boat trips, cultural tours, canoeing on the Xanthos River and having the scrub of your life at a hamam (Turkish bath) - there are a few in hotels in Kalkan, open to the public.

Shopping

Lots of shopping opportunities in Kalkan's boutiques and shops.  Visit the Thursday market to see how the locals shop and pick up a bargain while you're there!

At Night

Kalkan's town centre transforms at dusk as it begins to bustle with activity. There is so much to do; shopping, dining, cafes, excellent bars, or just going for a stroll along the twisting active streets or by the peaceful harbour.
